Prior to pretreatment, the arrival of trucks is meticulously supervised, identifying the origin, weight and type of waste being transported. The plant receives an average of 675 tonnes of waste per day.

Pretreatment control is designed in such a way that the plant can easily adapt to the evolution of selective collection and to changes in the proportions of the different fractions.

Organic waste from selective collection and residual waste both undergo pretreatment, though in separate lines: one for organic waste from selective collection and two for residual waste. The plant also has a transfer line if needed.

The organic waste line consists of a series of mechanical equipment: trommels and a ballistic separator. It also has automatic selection (automatic, magnetic and optical) and manual selection.

The residual waste lines also consist of a series of mechanical equipment: trommels and ballistic separators. In addition, they have four rotary-drum biostabilizers where pre-fermentation of the material defibers paper and cardboard, which in turn facilitates subsequent composting. It too has automatic selection (magnetic and Foucault's separation) and manual selection.

The purpose of pretreatment is to separate the organic matter contained in both fractions from recyclable materials and other unsuitable materials that cannot be made use of (factory discharge):

  • Organic matter from selective collection is used in methanization, after wet treatment, and organic residual waste is used for composting.
  • Recyclable materials are classified and packed for recycling.
  • Discharge, which contains less than 4% organic matter, is prepared for controlled depositing or as material for landscape restoration (bales).
